Guikuri es un caserío de labranza alavés del año 1.850 situado en el Parque Natural del Gorbea, en el pueblo de Murua a unos 10 minutos de Vitoria-Gasteiz y 40 de Bilbao. Comenzamos la rehabilitación en 1.984, pero no fue hasta 1.992 cuando se dedicó parte de la casa al agroturismo ya que la obra la fuimos haciendo poco a poco nosotros mismos. Mantuvimos la estructura principal que tenía de piedra, la madera, que estaba en buenas condiciones, se trató con ceras naturales y aceites para conservar el ambiente ancestral de vivienda campesina. Se proyectaron mas ventanas y huecos para mejorar la entrada de luz por el tejado. Los suelos son de barro cocido o de madera de roble de esos que emiten al paso ese quejido discreto y hogareño, característico de la madera con años. Casi todo el mobiliario perteneció al caserío, otros enseres llegaron de caseríos de la zona, de abuelas, de rastros. Los restauramos con productos naturales. Apaintzeko altzari eta gauza batzuk baserrian bertan zeuden eta beste batzuk inguruetako baserrietatik, azoketatik edota aitite-amamen etxeetatik aterata daude. Geuk garbitu, berriztatu eta kera eta olio naturalez tratatu ditugu. |

Built in 1850, Guikuri is a typical Alava farmhouse situated in the village of Murua within the Gorbea Mountain Natural Park, a 10 minute drive from Vitoria-Gasteiz and 40 minutes from Bilbao.
Almost all the furniture was in the original farmhouse, other fittings and pieces of furniture came from other country houses in the area, from grandparents, from second-hand markets. 1984an etxea erosi eta konpontzen hasi ginen, eta 1992an baserriaren zati bat nekazalturismorako egokitzea erabaki genuen, guk geuk lanari ekin geniolarik. Etxearen egurra eta harria ondo zegoenez ez genuen ukitu, bakarrik garbitu eta olio naturalez tratatu baserriaren kutsua bere baitan mantentzeko. Egoitzaren argitasuna hobetzeko, baserriaren itxura aldatu barik, teilatuan zabaldu genituen leihoak. Zoruetarako buztina eta haritz-ohol zaharra erabili genuen antzinako etxeetan ibiltzean entzuten den hots atsegin hori ez galtzeko asmoz. Hormak testura latzez amaiturik eta kolore biziz margoturik daude: hori, urdin, laranja...
Renovation work began in 1984, but as we did the work ourselves little by little, it was not until 1992 that part of the house was converted into a rural hotel. We have maintained the basic stone structure and the timberwork, which was in good condition, has been treated with natural waxes and oils in order to conserve the bygone atmosphere of the country home. More windows and skylights were put in to lighten the interior. The floors are of fired clay or the kind of old oak floorboards which often creak comfortingly but discretely as you tread upon them.
